"Here I Am" is a book that includes more than 30 of my original poems carefully compiled together. Topics include my childhood, heartbreak, love, and more. It's simple and straightforward.

It was hard for me to make this public. I've been writing my whole life and love it more than most things, but have always found it hard to share my most personal words. Through a poetry course I took at my college this semester, I began sharing and reading some poems out loud to my class. I didn't want to avoid something because of fear. My wonderful classmates provided excellent feedback, criticism, and compliments. Several times I heard, "Thank you, I felt that. I needed that." 

 

I realized that if I shared my work, I could affect people the way famous poets had affected me. I could help people in the way Plath, Poe, Ginsberg, or Shakespeare had helped me. I've learned that the world is better when people are open about their emotions and experiences. Writing this helped me and I hope reading it will help you. And something stuck out to me at church the other day: "We impress people with our strengths, but we connect with them through our weaknesses."
